| Whitstable and Herne Bay Lions were Chartered
in 1971 and are one of the 941 clubs in the British Isles
and Ireland, part of the worldwide family of Lions Clubs.
The Club raises money in the
Whitstable & Herne Bay area and most of it goes
back to the community in the form of help for those
in need. In the past year help has been given to the
Gateway Club, the Joy Lane Autistic Unit, Whitstable
Sea Cadets and 3rd Whitstable Scouts. Members of the
Blind Club have been taken on an outing on the Tenterden
railway, computer equipment has been bought for a local
blind girl and gardening services provided for an elderly
lady. We support the local Hospices, the Riding and
Sailing Clubs for the disabled as well as encouraging
local youth organisations.
The Club also
supports Lions International projects such as providing
rapid help in areas devastated by floods or earthquakes.
The money goes directly to Lions Clubs in the affected
area whose members know exactly where help is most needed.
One of the aims of Lions International is to eliminate
80% of the world’s eye diseases. To do this it
provides money to dig water wells in deprived areas
and sets up eye camps to deal with cataracts and other
eye problems, It also supports child Aids victims in
Africa.
New members are always welcome. Why not come along
and meet us – 2nd and 4th Thursdays at the Marine
Hotel, Tankerton.
